  Teenager Will Serve 21 Years
Posted By Criminal Defense Editor

One teenager will spend the next 21 years behind bars for fatally shooting a classmate four years ago.

The 17-year-old man went before a judge this week to enter his plea bargain. In exchange for pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter with use of a firearm and second-degree murder, he was given a more lenient sentence. Several years ago the teenager did go to trial, but after just nine days it was declared a mistrial. It took a few more years for prosecutors and his attorneys to work out a deal that he would agree to.

By the time that he leaves prison, the young man will be 38 years old. Once he turns 18, he will be transferred from the juvenile hall where he is currently being held to a state prison.

Has your loved one been arrested for murder? If so, don't wait to seek help from a criminal defense lawyer in your area.

Man Charged with Rape and Murder
Posted By Criminal Defense News

A man already on death row for the rape and murder of a teenager in California  was recently given another death sentence for a different crime in Virginia. DNA testing linked Alfred Preito to the rape and murder of Rachel Raver along with her boyfriend Warren Fulton in Reston, Virginina. Prieto was extradited to Virginia with the hopes that the state would carry out the death sentence there.

Despite two juries convicting him of murder and one sentencing him to death, the Supreme Court of Virginia ordered a new sentencing as it believed the verdict form was unclear. It took eight hours over a two-day period for jurors to reach a verdict. At this point the judge can reduce the sentence to life without parole or carry out the juror's recommended sentence.

When someone you love is convicted of a serious crime like murder, you need a serious criminal defense attorney to protect their legal rights.
