  California Agents Conducting Checkpoints

Different agencies across the state of California are conducting sobriety and driver's license checkpoints this weekend. Gardena, Carson, Inglewood and Los Angeles officers will be out patrolling and hunting down drunk drivers.

Funding for these checkpoints comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; the programs are implemented by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During a checkpoint held on April 1 on El Segundo Boulevard, 1,300 cars were screened, while 134 of them were subjected to a secondary screening. 

As a result, ten drivers were arrested for DUI, while one was arrested for driving with a suspended license. In addition, 48 cars were taken into storage, two cars were recovered as stolen and 40 drivers were cited for driving with suspended licenses or being unlicensed.

Officers with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are still investigating the double murder that happened in Pico Rivera last week.

According to police reports the incident took place on the 8900 block of Gallatin Road around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sgt. Don Walls stated that, "Family members became concerned about the mother at the home, as well as another brother, and came back and made the discovery of their bodies -- not inside the home but in a detached garage." The attacked had attempted to conceal the bodies, but not very well.

Detectives arrested the man who they believe bludgeoned his brother to death and stabbed his mother. The victims were later identified. There was a third victim, another brother, who survived the attack and was able to call 911. The person responsible is being charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

A youth basketball coach in the Detroit, Michigan area has reportedly been arrested and charged with possessing 50 to 499 grams of drugs.

According to reports, Robert Hatchett Jr. was stopped by officers one morning for improper lane usage. During that stop, officers reportedly found more than 100 grams of heroin and over $22,500 in cash in his vehicle.

It is being reported that Hatchett has been placed on administrative leave. He has since been released on a $25,000 personal bond.

  Woman Pleads Guilty to Medicaid Fraud
